FREE FILM FESTIVAL

The 6th annual Kenya international film festival will be held on
21st to 31st October.
Screenings to be done in: Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa, and Eldoret.
Venue partners; Alliance Francaise in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu, Silverbird Screens and the National Museum

Festival Highlights

1. Theme Nights: This is an excellent forum for filmmakers to interact and share ideas on both cultural issues and cinematography. Different cultures meet through film. The night includes screening films and a light cocktail by the host Embassy.This year we have; Kenya Night, French Night and others will be confirmed later

2. Mobile Telephone Short Film Competition

3. Film Business: this is basically an insight to business related to film for instance, Tourism and Film Symposium

4. Student Forum; Universities and colleges as well as film education and outreach program focussing on primary and secondary schools.

Festival Activities

1. Films in competition- The competition films are categorised into Student films, Short Films, Long Feature, Experimental and animation as well as Documentaries. The deadline for films submission is June 30th. Only twenty films will be picked for competition this year. So it’s a first come first served basis.

2. General Exhibition of film focussing on leadership- this is basically a showcase of films from the entire world entered in the festival. The screenings will be on going daily during the festival at the mentioned venues.

3. Screening of world classics- these are basically classic films that have won awards or have been nominated for awards. They are picked from all over the world

4. Experimental and Animation films

5. Location Kenya Films- this is basically showcase of films shot in Kenya.

6. Special feature on Africa Diaspora Films

7. Capacity building workshops: these are workshops in Kisumu, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru and Nairobi. This will involve master classes for film groups in their specific towns

8. Community screening with the first one being at the KICC grounds. This is free for all and open to the general public.

9. Workshops on Intellectual Property, Distribution, Digital Archiving, Film Classification and Women in Film.

10. Other activities include: Mundial Tour and a mini festival in the festival. Participating festivals include; Indonesia, Columbia, Ethiopia, Niger, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Zimbabwe Artists Cafeteria: a forum for artists to meet with producers, Directors as well as film students interacting with them. This will be held at the Alliance Francaise Garden during the festival period.
